The role of liver stem cells in liver regeneration and liver cancer

My research efforts are currently focused in three main areas:

1) Investigating the regenerative potential of adult liver stem cells isolated from mouse models of chronic liver injury

2) Defining the role of liver stem cells in liver cancer progression during chronic liver injury in mouse models of liver cancer

3) Characterizing the specific immuno-phenotypes of adult liver stem cells isolated from human patients.

We rely heavily on flow cytometry to identify specific cell populations based on surface expression and immuno-phenotyping. We utilize multiple transgenic mouse lines as our models of chronic liver injury and carcinoma progression.
