Dr. Lang was appointed to the faculty in 1966 as an assistant professor and director of the Animal Resource Facility. He had previously served two years at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Washington D.C., and completed a residency in laboratory animal medicine at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine. He was promoted to associate professor in 1969, to professor in 1972, and received the George T. Harrell professorship in 1984. He has published over 156 scientific papers on animal models, education, facility design and management, and other aspects of laboratory animal medicine.
